Olive Oil from Navarra, Northern Spain
The autonomous community of Navarra in northern Spain is characterized by cool winters and dry summers. This combination is not necessarily conducive to olive cultivation, as the olive tree loves the sun but suffers from water shortages as well as from severe cold. The Arroniz olive, however, has managed to adapt to the harsh conditions and is thus the main supplier for the tasty olive oil from Navarra.
More than 80 percent of Trujal Mendía's 900,000 olive trees bear the native Arroniz variety, which is rarely grown outside of Navarra. Spanish olive oil from the medium-sized Arroniz olive is of a green-yellow color and has a medium fruitiness.
