OLIVE JAPAN is an international extra virgin olive oil competition organized by the Olive Oil Sommelier Association of Japan (OSAJ) in Tokyo. It honors the best EVOOs with Silver (≥65 points), Gold (≥76) and Premier (≥86 with broad judge recommendation) medals, following a sensory evaluation framework based on the International Olive Council (IOC) standards.
In this prestigious competition, there are no Bronze, Platinum or Double Gold medals. Results are typically announced in June and presented during the OLIVE JAPAN event, where the winning oils gain international recognition.
Recent editions attract hundreds of entries from around the world; for instance, in 2025 there were 803 entries from 29 countries and eight Premier medals, with the winners list later expanded to hundreds of Gold and Silver awards.
