Our NYIOOC 2021 Gold Medal Set
The New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC) was founded in 2013 by Curtis Cord, publisher of an olive oil magazine. It is the largest competition in the world. It takes place every spring and attracts about 1,000 international participants. Any producer or bottler of extra virgin olive oil who has paid the entry fee can participate. Therefore, both the smallest family businesses and large cooperatives have the chance to be awarded a medal for an excellent olive oil.
In 2021, 1,171 olive oils were submitted to the NYIOOC. Thus, the number of participants reached a new record, despite the difficult conditions caused by the Corona pandemic. In our Gold Medal Set, we have selected for you four top-quality Spanish oils that differ in variety, taste, and aromas, so that you always have a suitable gold medal winner on hand for the finishing touch of your delicious dishes.
The NYIOOC gold medal opens all doors
As the largest international competition, the New York International Olive Oil Competition is not just another contest, but gains in importance every year. After all, it's not just the end consumer who is guided by the NYIOOC awards. Wholesalers, importers, chefs, and restaurant owners also cannot taste every olive oil and are happy to leave this work to the experts.
Therefore, top oils that have been awarded in New York are often found in the kitchens of Michelin-starred restaurants or in delicatessens. What means an expansion of the market for the olive oil producer, means for you that it would not be surprising if you discovered an extra virgin olive oil from our Gold Medal Set in a delicatessen. Because a gold medal from the largest international olive oil competition is a mark of quality that enjoys worldwide recognition.
Our Gold Medal Set for gifting or for your own enjoyment
Among the Spanish winning oils, we have put together four top oils for you in a gourmet set. Our NYIOOC Gold Medal Set is ideal for gifting as well as for your own kitchen. A passionate olive oil connoisseur will be delighted with these four first-class olive oils. For a novice, these high-quality extra virgin olive oils can open up a whole new world of aromas.
The lightly fruity, golden-yellow Oro Bailen Arbequina fascinates with its wonderful fruit aromas and a distinctive, slightly spicy finish. It comes from the first harvest and is therefore particularly rich in healthy ingredients. It is excellent for
- simple and sophisticatedly composed salads
- mixed appetizer platters
- raw vegetables (crudités)
- grilled tuna
The Almaoliva Arbequina from Almazaras de la Subbética, with its mild finish, is an ideal entry-level oil, but is also appreciated by connoisseurs for its particularly harmonious balance of many fruit aromas. We recommend this high-quality extra virgin olive oil, among other things, for
- homemade cold sauces, such as mayonnaise
- marinating salmon or sole
- unconventional, fancy fruit salads
- savory and sweet pastries
- pasta
- carpaccio
The Picual from Oro del Desierto, a green olive oil with a golden shimmer, comes from organic farming and fascinates not only with its unique dynamism and personality, but also with its many health-promoting polyphenols. This extravagant NYIOOC gold medal oil is particularly suitable for
- bruschetta with tomato
- stews of all kinds
- light and dark sauces
- cold vegetable soups, like gazpacho or salmorejo
- fried foods
- seafood
The grass-green Coupage from Marqués de Valdueza, with its intense fruitiness and aromas of wild, freshly cut grass and aromatic herbs, is particularly suitable for the finishing touch on your delicious meals and dishes. We prefer to use this extra virgin olive oil with its exciting aftertaste for
- exclusive salad dressings
- juicy grilled steaks
- whole grilled fish
- pan-fried fish fillets
