Almazara de la Subbética is located within the rugged mountainous territory. This territory is in the vicinity of Sierras Subbeticas national park that lies in the south of the Province of Cordoba- Andalusia, Spain. Almazara de la Subbética is first-level agriculture cooperation which was founded in 2007 when two prestigious and experienced cooperatives: S.C.A Vigen del Castillo and S.C.A Olivarera Nustero Padre Jesus Nazareno decided to conjoin their professional experience and convert it into one company.
Every land on earth is known for the distinctive properties and particular production it yields, similarly, for more than 3000 years, Spain is known as the land of olives. Its soil has such unique chemistry which is perfect for the enriched, flavorful olive growth which no other soil holds in the world. It is the undisputed powerhouse and unit of olive oil production, that alone accounts for the global 40 to 55% production. This production is pioneered by the southern region of Andalusia; Almazara de la Subbética is among those regions.
The land where Almazara is located is well known for its unique microclimate characteristics defined by heavy rainfalls and highly variable temperatures. Under these conditions, the legendary olive trees grow and stand majestically in the vast lands of Cordoba that have remained unaltered over time. As modern technology has replaced the old harvesting methods, we the Almazara has also adopted these innovative techniques to bolster our production, maximize our yield, maintain the highest quality in the region, and aid our farmers. We have handsomely managed to maintain a sleek balance between our traditions and technology that abide by the high-quality standards demanded by the insightful customers.
In Spain, all the olive groove holders know their soil very well. They know which soil is best for the specific varietal olive crop, as not all varieties are compatible and can be grown anywhere on the land. Almazara de la Subbética is currently a benchmark of extra virgin olive oil in the world and this is because they know their soil.
The farmers of our company are ambitious, and with their passion, they have converted the rugged mountainous lands into majestic olive farms. With the help of small, modern technology and the latest cultivation techniques, more than 3200 hectares of the land have added value to our exceptional oil production.
These three varieties are very unique and well known for their growth patterns under the harsh climate of the Cordoba province. The perfect combination of these varieties brings in 100% natural, healthy, and complementary products that suit best the nutritional requirements of our health and activates our taste buds.
Almazara is not just an olive oil producing company, rather it also plays a significant part in social work. The family of Almazara in Subbetica came up with a great idea to help the children fighting with multiple diseases like cancer. The idea encapsulates the creation of unique, artistic bottles personified by the special imaginary drawings of the students from different schools, who participate in the project.
The theme which is used is “ The Family, The Olive Grove, and the Oil”. This solidarity contribution of the students is made part of the interior as per its uniqueness and sentimental value with the extra virgin olive oils of the prestigious and highest quality. Then €2 are donated per every sold bottle, by our company to UnoEntreCienMil and Sonrisas Sin Cancer centers.
The farms of Almazara de la Subbética, more than 29,628 hectares of the olive groves, are stretched between the municipalities of Carcabuey, Fuente Tojar, Almedinilla, and Priego de Cordoba. Farmers and grocers have dedicated their lives to make these farms as per international standards. It is due to their hard work that we have acquired multiple certificates and awards like “Best Oil in the World”, and “Best Oil Mill in the World” which reflect our tradition, effort, and preservation of our quality.
Among the many, most famous awards we have won are:
